WHAT DO WE DO?

 Writing We are a friendly group seeking to encourage, motivate and inspire both established and would-be writers of fiction, articles and poetry through manuscript meetings, competition evenings, guest speaker events and occasional social evenings. See current programme below. 
We meet at  LA ZOUCH RESTAURANT, KILWARDBY STREET, ASHBY on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month from 7.30 pm. to 9.45 p.m.  Prospective new members always welcome.  Why not come along and check us out?  Annual subscription £18.  £1 per meeting to include tea/coffee.  Visitors welcome at £2 for manuscript meetings and £3 for speaker evenings, both to include refreshment.

26th Aug                        speaker: John Hyde – comedy writer

                                    John was a regular contributor to The Two Ronnies, News Huddlines, etc

                                    as well as a writer of very funny verse

 

9th Sept                         Manuscript meeting – members' own work

 

23rd Sept                       speaker: Ken Hillier – talking about the life and work of John Buchan, (Baron Tweedsmuir), author of The 39 Steps, Greenmantle, Prester John, etc.  Ken is the general secretary of the John Buchan society

 

14th Oct                         Manuscript meeting – members' own work

 

26th Oct                         competition: - theme “Behind the mask” (own title)   prose

                                    300 words +/- 5 words (ie the piece must be 295-305 words)

 

11th Nov                        Manuscript meeting – members' own work

 

25th Nov                        speaker: John Martin – talking about the history of the crime novel

 

9th Dec                          Christmas meal at La Zouch

 

13th Jan                         Manuscript meeting – members' own work

 

27th Jan                         Favourite authors

                                    Bring along two favourite pieces of work (poems and/or pieces of prose

up to 500 words) to share with other members

 

10th Feb                        Manuscript meeting – members' own work

 

24th Feb                       AGM
